A Photo Series On Enjoying Life: Part I

A photo series on enjoying life: Part I, The Catskill Mountains

While I'm good at a lot of different random things, I started to realize that I wasn't so good at slowing down to enjoy life. I'd go from design project to design project with virtually no time to reflect and just be. Work essentially made me. I (naively) felt that persevering through huge (stressful) projects and undertaking demanding jobs meant I was successful -- silly, I know.

But recently, I've found a great place...balance. I'm making some exciting moves with the expansion of Pip & Estella and most importantly, I'm having fun doing it -- not forgetting to soak up life's goodness (and life's good vintage) along the way. I have a card in my desk drawer that I pull out every now and then. It says "Love what you do, and it will love you back." Word.

How are you with just "being"? Does it come easy? Has it been tough? I'd love to know!

xx

oh Sana, i love these photos and your added embellishments : )

i know what you mean about digging into work (especially when it's such a strong passion) but our heads need to shake it off sometimes just as you've said. good for you on breaking out, literally into the wide and open.

i adore the cards sentiment; gonna write that one down asap. sometimes i just feel like dialing 1-800-life-is-good-cause-I-say-so!

being in the moment is something i'm working on too. i read that the hardest stance to master is non-movement. this bleeds into every part of life, right now it is hopefully being accepted into my system. wishing the same for you love!

thanks for your comment on the hug on the left post, you are so cool Sana!!! ♥

Love the photos.

Happy to hear the good news.

Being; I try. Meditation helps.

oh, geez! i was signed into my old wedding blog email for that comment above- doh! ok, it's me now...

@caroline welcome and thank you! there is a certain energy about in the mountains which is why hiking is always a nice refresher for me!

@lynn you keep me in stitches (the 800-life-is-good...) and laughing is good for the soul so that mans i've got to keep you around. :) oh, and "the hardest stance to master is non-movement", now i'm writing that one down!

@bruce thanks, mr. barone! meditation definitely helps and i must say i'm becoming more disciplined in that area -- slowly but surely!

There's nothing like fresh country air and no cell phone service to make you feel human again.

This place looks so nice & I love this new series of yours! Somehow I've read many quotes about loving life, but never the one you mentioned here & I LOVE IT!

P.S. I DID go swimming & it was SO nice... but very cold, ha!

I'm still working on it, Sana! I love what you wrote about going from project to project and thinking it meant success. I had the same mentality and it hasn't lead to much success unless you consider burnout the ultimate goal. I'm glad you're taking time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. I must do the same myself. Someone once told me "We're human beings, not human doings" and I try to think of that whenever I board the crazy train :)

BTW- Never been to the Catskills....just another thing I want to do but never get around to doing :)

Love this post! And the pictures. I've also had trouble just being lately. But this weekend I'm finally getting away for a few days and plan to do nothing but be.

@pip no blackberry. no iphone. imagine that!

@eva thank you! you always have the quotes to live by and believe me, there are plenty days when I look forward to those words of wisdom. :)

@maddy the crazy train, hahaha. i had a business class seat on it but it's so great to hear your beach driving story because i could totally relate.

@christine thx! yes, yes, get out of Berlin this weekend and take some photos if the opportunity presents itself, won't you? i'd love to see them!

I enjoyed this post. Being the meditative, poetic type I have no problem slowing down and "being." The only hiccp is the incessant "I'm hungry" from my 10 year old daughter and my husband. They are like baby birds with their mouths open all the time. But I do love those little birdies!
I do have a wonderful life!
